Description
Maria Tijerina shared some of her experiences with COPS/Metro emphasizing the importance of volunteering and community involvement. She discussed how COPS helped her become more active in her community, advocating for higher city wages and improving public housing. She also discussed challenges her parish faced through COVID pandemic and enduring high leadership turnover rates.
Biography
Maria Tijerina grew up in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine neighborhood on the Westside of San Antonio. Her mother had some passive involvement with COPS/Metro in the early days of formation, attending rallies and similar gatherings. After a career as an Army nurse, Maria retired and settled back in her home neighborhood, and became involved in COPS/Metro in greater capacity to include leadership positions.
