Volume 14, Issue 1 of The Rattler marks the beginning of a new academic year at St. Mary’s University with developments in academics, arts, and campus organizations. For the first time in its history, the music department will sponsor an artist’s recital, scheduled for October 14 at the Plaza Hotel ballroom. Tim C. Williams has been elected president of the senior class, while increased enrollment has created a demand for additional faculty members. The orchestra announces its seasonal schedule of musicales and provides an updated roster of members. The R.O.T.C. program outlines plans for the possible organization of a cavalry unit, signaling continued expansion of military training opportunities on campus. The Garni Nature Club holds its first meeting of the year in the newly designated Biology department quarters, and the sports outlook is described as promising. Brother John J. Black is reappointed moderator of the Rattler Club, and the issue concludes with a summary of departmental changes for the academic year.
