Description

This digital museum exhibit features the climate change fairy tale The Tree Who Stood and Watched, presented as a written narrative and recorded reading accompanied by a slideshow of photographs from the contributor’s grandmother’s garden and pecan tree. It also includes two infographics highlighting the Pecan tree (Carya illinoinensis), exploring both its scientific and environmental characteristics and its personal and familial significance in the face of climate change, along with a curator’s talk that provides an overview of the exhibit. The exhibit also contains an artifact entry with a digitally drawn image symbolizing tree rings as markers of environmental change and the passage of time. ,It includes a collection of original photographs that inspired the fairy tale and connect the narrative to lived experience. It ends with a persuasive essay The Stories the Trees Are Trying to Tell: How Fairy Tales Can Encourage Climate Awareness, which argues that fairy tales and storytelling can foster empathy for trees and increase public dialogue about climate change and environmental responsibility.
