Description
In part 2 of our interview, JoAnna Mendez discussed the difference between the terms "Latin American" and "Hispanic," claiming an affinity to Latin American and Mexican, citing their inclusion of indigenous roots. She challenges "Hispanic Heritage Month" celebrations to acknowledge both cultural contributions and historical losses. JoAnna proposes universities rename promotional materials to "Latin American Heritage" and recognize colonization's impact to a greater extent. She offers advice to young Latinas for campus engagement, opportunities, and new experiences.
